NEW DELHI: Yet another year and yet another Maruti Suzuki car registered its authorities in a segment. The MPV space has been really busy, witnessing some very interesting models. From the most-affordable Triber to luxury on wheels, Kia Carnival, the tried-and-tested Maruti Suzuki Ertiga has taken the pole position in 2019-20.
Maruti Suzuki Ertiga earned the moniker of top-seller among MPVs of the Financial Year 2019-20, clocking 90,547 units against 65,263 units in a year-ago period.
The 39% growth gains even more importance as Ertiga had to make way for itself fighting its sibling - XL6. Launched in 2019, the groomed and premium version of Ertiga - the XL6 - notched sales of over 22,000 units.
In the luxury MPV space, Kia Carnival and Toyota Vellfire created a buzz. Launched at Auto Expo 2020, Carnival has found 3,187 buyers so far while the epitome of luxury peoples' mover -- the Vellfire -- has been sold 168 units so far.
Renault Triber -- the most affordable and compact 7-seater took many by surprise, registering 33,860 units in FY’19-20. In fact, every third Renault car sold in the period was a Triber. Without many surprises, carmakers have decided to upgrade the Triber with a powerful and peppier turbo variant, which will arrive later in 2020.
