UP: Ghaziabad-bound goods train derails in Mathura district

LUCKNOW: Four wagons of a Ghaziabad-bound goods train which was laden with iron rods derailed in Mathura district on Sunday morning, causing disruption of rail traffic.
No injuries were reported in the mishap. The train was coming from Visakhapatnam.

The accident took place at around 10.10 am between Virndaban Road and Ajhai station of Mathura, which blocked all the three tracks. After the accident, railway authorities along with heavy machinery, crane and gas cutter reached spot to restore the track and remove the derailed wagons.Meanwhile, train guard and the pilot were sent for breath analysis and other medical examinations.
Speaking to TOI, divisional commercial manager SK Srivasatav of Agra division said, “The train had consignment for Ballabgarh and Ghaziabad, but it got derailed. Following which, 12 express and four parcel trains which were scheduled to pass via Mathura section have been diverted to an alternative route, while two express trains have been rescheduled.”
“The exact cause of derailment is yet to be known. A probe has been called in the matter,” he added. Railway track passing via Mathura is one of the fastest in the country and caters semi-high speed Gatimaan, Shatabadi and several Rajdhani Express trains.
Trains diverted by railway authorities included Sachkhand Express, Mangala Lakshadweep Express - which were diverted towards Tundla, Mitawali to Aligarh and further to the national capital, while Golden Temple Express and Kota Janshatabdi Express were diverted to Rewari via Alwar to reach Delhi.
Eight other express trains heading down south such as Goa Covid Special Express, Sachkhand Express, Mangala Lakshadweep Express and Telangana Express were diverted towards Agra via Mitawali, Tundla and Golden Temple, Mewar were diverted toward Alwar via Rewari.
Kota-Hazratnizamuddin and Jabalpur-Hazratnizamuddin trains were rescheduled.
