Sudden demand for HSR number plates

There’s also a rush for HSRP at the RTO and the daily number of vehicles for the plates has jumped from 100 to 400. The jump, however, was not as much for the new traffic fines, but due to a drive organised by the RTO to catch vehicles without HSR number plates.

AHMEDABAD: There’s also a rush for HSRP at the RTO and the daily number of vehicles for the plates has jumped from 100 to 400. The jump, however, was not as much for the new traffic fines, but due to a drive organised by the RTO to catch vehicles without HSR number plates.
The RTO had carried out a major drive last week and taken action against several vehicles that did not have HSR number plates.
Officials made a rough estimate that there were nearly 6 lakh vehicles on the road which did not have an HSR number plate. The officials said many new vehicles too did not have HSR number plates.
A luxury car owner who had come to the RTO to get the HSRP done said, “I had bought a fancy number plate, but recently I was told by my friends in police that they would start imposing fines for not having HSR number plates. So, I decided to get it done. Usually, all my RTO works are done by my agent, but with the RTO getting strict I had to come myself to get the number plate.”
Ahmedabad RTO S P Muniya said the HSRP work is outsourced to an agency. “Usually 100-odd vehicles get fitted with HSR number plates each day, but now this number has increased to 400. We expect this to increase further,” he said.
