BENGALURU: The
BBMP council on Tuesday decided to name a newly built flyover in
Yelahanka New Town after
Hindutva ideologue Veer Savarkar.
The 400-metre-long flyover was constructed by BBMP at a cost of Rs 34 crore on
Sandeep Unnikrishnan Road, connecting Yelahanka New Town to Vidyaranyapura. The naming after Savarkar had stoked controversy with Congress and JD(S) demanding that the flyover be called after Karnataka freedom fighters.
BBMP council sources said a proposal will be sent to the state government to get its approval. Once the government passes an order, the flyover name becomes official.
