Many news reports have been doing rounds claiming that Bollywood actress Parineeti Chopra was removed as the brand ambassador of ‘Beti Bachao Beto Badho’ scheme by Haryana government after she criticized ‘police brutality’ against those who were dissenting against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), 2019.
Chopra had on December 17, 2019 expressed displeasure at the way ‘innocent human beings’ were handled by authorities for protesting against CAA.
She tweeted saying, "We shouldn’t call our country democracy anymore," if dissenters have to face violent crackdowns and called the same ‘barbaric’.

Following her tweet, many news reports surfaced claiming she was dropped as the face of ‘Beti Bachao Beti Badhao’ programme, by the Haryana government, because of her views on CAA protests.

TRUTH
Chopra wasn’t removed as the brand ambassador of ‘Beti Bachao Beti Badho’ because of what she tweeted. Her contract with Haryana government had expired in April, 2017, way before CAA, 2019 came into existence.
A tweet from news agency ANI quoted the spokesperson of Women & Child Development Ministry of Haryana government rubbishing the claim that the actor was dropped because of her views. The spokesperson revealed that the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed with Chopra was for one year and it was not renewed post April, 2017.

“News of Parineeti Chopra being dropped (for tweeting against CAA) as brand ambassador of 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' is false, baseless and malicious. MOU (signed with her) was for one year, till April, 2017. Thereafter, MOU was never renewed,” ANI quotes the spokesperson as clarifying.
We reached out to the Capt. Manoj Kumar, IAS, Director, Women & Child Development Department, Government of Haryana to get more clarity. Kumar told Times Fact Check that whatever had to be communicated has been, already.
