The silence of mainstream A list Bollywood actors like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Deepika Padukone , Priyanka Chopra, Katrina Kaif , Anushka Sharma, Ranveer Singh on the CAA uproar hasn’t gone unnoticed. While social media got the #shameonbollywood hashtag to trend on Twitter, an industry insider who is also a producer spoke to Etimes on the condition of anonymity. He revealed that the chances of these big stars saying anything are pretty slim. He revealed, “Salman, Deepika, Ranveer have big films lined up for release in 2020. They don’t want to take a chance and say something that will affect the box office prospects of their films. Also someone like a Karan Johar is a mainstream producer whose comments on the issue might land him in a soup and affect his film promotions.”
The producer adds that in the past the industry has faced ire for speaking their mind. “Karan had to issue a public apology for working with Pakistani actor Fawad Khan during Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. They don’t want to take any chances.”
However, this may change in the future. Both Deepika Padukone and Salman Khan are currently promoting their films Chhappak and 'Dabangg 3'. Will they take this opportunity to state their views on the matter? We will have to wait and see.
