NEW DELHI: Kia Sonet is the new buzz in the town, the new compact SUV will be the third product by Kia Motors in India. Kia Sonet is headed for a tough market segment that is already populated by Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, and many more.
We caught Kia Sonet testing ahead of its launch. The new compact SUV was being tested on the outskirts of Delhi.
The model found testing on the road is the tech-line variant of Kia Sonet.

Engine:
The Sonet will be offered in two petrol and one diesel engine option, which includes - a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, a 1.5-litre diesel, and a 1.0-litre T-GDi turbocharged petrol engine. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed manual gearbox, a DCT automatic, an all-new Intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT) unit, and an automatic torque converter for the diesel model.

iMT technology was first introduced in the Hyundai Venue. The iMT technology is very different from the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) or the Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT).
iMT is basically a modified manual transmission that still gives the driver power over the gearstick without the use of a clutch pedal.

Looks:
The Kia Sonet with its stylish and bold looks is aimed to offer a solid on-road presence and a premium youthful appeal. The Kia Sonet has a very powerful appearance with ‘heartbeat’ LED DRLs with integrated indicators and the ‘heartbeat’ LED taillamps to make sure that the car doesn’t go unnoticed.

Kia Sonet or Hyundai Venue? A look at features


The Sonet has an aggressive look because of the signature tiger-nose grille with a distinctive grille mesh and the ‘turbo’ shaped front skid plates. At the rear, the tail lamps are connected with a unique reflector garnish, imparting a wider look.
Timeline:
The India-exclusive compact SUV, which was first showcased at the Auto Expo 2020, is expected to be a game-changer in the B-segment market where it will go head-on with the likes of Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and the upcoming Nissan Magnite. Kia will roll out Sonet SUV in September and is likely to be priced between Rs 7 lakh - 12 lakh (ex-showroom).
