Ahmedabad CP directs sim card sellers to retain identity proof of buyers

AHMEDABAD: City police commissioner Ashish Bhatia has issued a notification instructing mobile sim cards sellers to verify the identity documents of buyers properly and keep photocopies of the documents with them, so that if needed the police can use those documents to trace criminals. The notification will stay in effect from June 13 to August 11. Dealers and sellers of sim cards found not complying with the notification will be booked under Section 188.
The notification says that as the use of internet is on the rise day by day and crimes related to online transactions are also increasing.These crimes are executed using sim cards procured through forged documents.
The notification mentions that it has come to notice that certain crimes are executed through STD / PCO. Hence, keeping the identity records of such users has become necessary to apprehend them. That is why the issuance of this notification becomes extremely necessary.
