Ahmedabad: She team gets man-handled, 1 held

AHMEDABAD: A She team of Naorda police station patrolling at night in plain clothes were in for a shock as they were assaulted and pelted with stones by a mob near Chiloda Ring Road on Tuesday, according to the FIR filed by them.
The trouble started when the She team, comprisingly mainly of women cops, quizzed a man, Nishant Barot, of Bapunagar, who was standing under suspected circumstances near a car.Barot, according to the FIR, was defiant and asked in turn pointing at his purse, “I have money. Wll you come with me to Pritam Hotel?” Taken aback with the obscene behaviour, the members of the She team flashed their identity cards at him. When Barot realized he had invited trouble, he attempted to turn the tables on the cops yelling ‘fake police’. This attracted locals who rushed to his rescue.
The FIR named one Ashok Patel, his wife Shweta Patel, Jhanvi Patel and about 100-150 people who gheraoed the cops. All persons mentioned have been booked for assault. The She team claims they were shoved and jostled by the crowd and assaulted. Head constable of the team, Harita Rajeshbhai, called up the police station and asked for help. “Other teams arrived and dispersed the crowd by use of force,” the FIR stated. ACP G division, A M Desai said, “We have arrested Nishant Barot and are searching for the rest.” In the FIR, complainant Harita Rajeshbhai has claimed that in front of the She team members the five accused tore her dress. They also manhandled with her and her colleagues.
