Ahmedabad: Traffic cops book two for ‘hurting police’

A 32-year-old man and his elder brother were booked for “hurting cops” when they allegedly got into a scuffle in which two buttons of a traffic cop’s uniform were torn. Ironically, they were booked for ‘causing hurt’ at the traffic police station where the cops are deployed, even though traffic police are not supposed to register such case but send them to local police station.

AHMEDABAD: A 32-year-old man and his elder brother were booked for “hurting cops” when they allegedly got into a scuffle in which two buttons of a traffic cop’s uniform were torn. Ironically, they were booked for ‘causing hurt’ at the traffic police station where the cops are deployed, even though traffic police are not supposed to register such case but send them to local police station.
Late on Tuesday evening, a garment trader from the Jamalpur area, Rizwan Pathan was travelling on his scooter near Raykhad.
He crossed the stop-line when signal was closed. A traffic cop came to him and told him to take his scooter behind the stop-line, said an official of Gaekwad Haveli police.
Rizwan alleged that the traffic cop abused him while directing him to take his scooter behind the stop-line. This irked Rizvan who got into a quarrel with the cop. The traffic cop began abusing Rizwan and told him to park his vehicle on roadside to file a legal case against him.
Meanwhile, Rizwan called up his elder brother Sarfaraz who reached there in around 10 minutes and tried to negotiate with the cops. Rizwan began shooting a video of the traffic cop and other three policemen who were arguing aggressively with Sarfaraz.
One of the four cops spotted Rizwan and he along with others held him and began beating him. Sarfaraz was forced to sit inside an autorickshaw. But as he insisted to take his brother along, he too was beaten by the cops, said a police official.
The FIR filed with Gakwad Haveli police mentions that Rizwan and Sarfaraz were attacked by four cops in which Rizwan suffered wounds. But as he went to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel hospital in the Ellisbridge area, a medico legal case was registered and later city police filed an FIR against four cops. As Rizwan’s FIR was registered with Gaekwad Haveli police, one of the four cops – Jagdishsinh Mohabbatsinh filed a complaint of causing hurt with E Traffic police where he has been deployed.
The FIR filed by traffic police also accused their own TRB (Traffic Regulation Brigade) jawan, Danish Naseer of abetment as the TRB jawan was repeatedly telling other cops that the duo live in his neighbourhood Jagdishsinh maintained in the FIR that the two tore off his uniform’s buttons and they had suffered injury accidentally as they fell on a table.
