‘Update KYC’ call may cost you dear

If you get a call asking to “update the KYC (Know Your Customer) information of your e-wallet”, beware. It may be from cyber cheats, who could within minutes may siphon off money from your e-wallet. They may ask you to install the “Quick Start” application from the Android Play store.

AHMEDABAD: If you get a call asking to “update the KYC (Know Your Customer) information of your e-wallet”, beware. It may be from cyber cheats, who could within minutes may siphon off money from your e-wallet. They may ask you to install the “Quick Start” application from the Android Play store.

This application, which is made to solve software problems remotely, can give the cyber attacker access to your device.
It will make it easy for the cheats to siphon off money from your account in minutes.
Cyber cell officials said they get 8 to 10 applications about this type of cheating a day. “We ask the service providers for the IP log address of the device from the which the victim gets the call. At times the number from which the call came are switched off, which makes our task even more difficult,” said a senior cyber cell official.
