BBMP chief posts whitetopped road pix, gets a twitterful
People highlighted lack of footpath on the white-topped stretch from Mehkri Circle to Sadashivanagar police station
Bengaluru: BBMP commissioner BH Anil Kumar on Friday posted a picture of the whitetopped CV Raman Road from Mehkri Circle to Sadashivnagar police station, only to draw ridicule on Twitter.
His caption for the picture read: “B.H. Anil Kumar, IAS @BBMPCOMM Can any #Bengaluru citizen identify this road? Work has been completed by #BBMP a few days ago. Hope motorists follow @blrcitytraffic rules & don’t use this stretch for a speed test (sic)!”
Twitterati took exception to what they described as shoddy work and lack of a pedestrian walkway.
Anil Kumar’s photograph also showed debris lying on the road corners.
Namma Bengaluru, a citizen group, responded: “Road looks good, seems to be the road from Mekhri circle towards Sadashivanagar. How about the footpaths? When will those be ready? Are pedestrians not a priority (sic)?”
Sudhakar Rao tweeted on his handle @sudhakar10: “Sir you forgot footpaths, both sides of the roads are in tatters. Unless you think pedestrians have no right on the road & can be left to die (sic).”
“Real test is when it rains, when is BBMP planning to dig up the road? New roads are too tempting for civic agencies,” another tweet read.
Commissioner Anil Kumar rued that netizens do not know how to appreciate BBMP’s good work. He said the footpath was ready on one side. “First, they complained about no road and we provided it, now they complain about no footpath, then they will say no streetlights. How can we provide everything?” Kumar asked. “There has to be land and space to provide everything,” he told TOI.
