BENGALURU: A demand to include ‘Bangalore’ in the account name of the official
Twitter handle of
Indian Premier League (
IPL) team
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) grew louder on Sunday with Twiteratti expressing displeasure over the name of the team’s account currently being just ‘Royal Challengers’.
On Saturday and Sunday, the admin of the handle was flooded with tweets seeking renaming of the account. Though the official Twitter handle of the team is @RCBtweets, the name of the account is ‘Royal Challengers’.
A few fans of the team, meanwhile, pointed out how the demand could have stemmed from anger at the recently announced RCB squad for this year, which doesn’t feature many players from the state.
“First of all you don’t need any local players in team and on top of that there’s no city name now. Seriously? It would be better if we ask @lionsdenkxip to change their name to 2States (Karnataka+Punjab) don’t take fans for granted,” tweeted Arpita Bhat.
Even as the online chatter grew louder, sources pointed out that the account’s name has always been ‘Royal Challengers’.
“On Twitter, names are kept shorter for convenience,” one source added.
