BENGALURU: Karnataka government has launched a YouTube channel that will inform job-seekers how to apply for a job, prepare for competitive exams and, even, read a newspaper. The channel with six videos has picked up 30.3K subscribers in just one week after its launch. The Department of Collegiate Education’s (DCE) channel — ‘Vijayi Bhava’ — is part of the government’s larger programme to empower youth.
DCE commissioner Anirudh Sravan P told TOI that one of the videos on FDA (first division assistant) job posting has garnered 47,000 views.
The video — rather, a tutorial — is about the job, the books an applicant must read and how to apply for the job.
The channel offers insights into both government and private-sector jobs. For instance, the channel’s video on Wipro job opportunities has 5,000 views since Monday. Expectedly, the channel is flooded with comments and questions by youngsters. At the moment, the videos on the channel benefit those who are looking for a job immediately after graduation. Sravan said they will soon focus on boards and other competitive examinations.
The department has roped in domain experts to guide students. The channel is coordinated by Manjunath B, an assistant professor at Hiriyur Government First-Grade College in Chitradurga district. His similarly-positioned YouTube channel — ‘Sadhana Academy’, started in 2018 — has 487K subscribers.
“Unlike in north India, Karnataka does not have a proper medium that guides students on studies and career choices. Vijayi Bhava will help the state’s youth, who have the potential but lack a guide,” he said, explaining his own struggle of making it big from his hometown of Shikaripura in Shivamogga district.
Higher education minister Dr CN Ashwath Narayan said detailed videos bring students up to speed with the latest in jobs industry. “We want to make YouTube videos a one-stop source for academic and career-related queries,” he added.
Sravan said the channel will invite successful people on its shows to inspire youngsters.
“Girls don’t have to graduate and sit at home waiting to get married. They can build a career,” he said, referring to a video of high school teacher Parvathi, who cracked the Karnataka Administrative Services examinations and became a commercial tax assistant commissioner. The department has reached out to colleges to roll out two videos a week
