CHENNAI: The directorate of government examinations is working on elaborate plans to maintain social distancing when staff evaluate Class XII answer scripts, the first major task since the lockdown that would involve more than 20,000 teachers. The plan includes reducing the number of examiners per hall from 28 to 14, including more schools for evaluation and issuing special passes if the public transport ban is still on.
The evaluation is likely to start in the second week of May.
“The department would disinfect centres before evaluation,” a school education department official said. As per the original schedule, the evaluation of Class XII answer scripts would have been completed by now.
The DGE has set up 70 centres to evaluate 48 lakh answer scripts. But, more centres would be needed now. Usually there is one chief examiner and a scrutiny officer for every six assistant examiners and each hall would have four chief examiners. There would be at least 30 people per room.
“We are planning to accommodate either one or two chief examiners based on hall size. Chief educational officers, who would be the in charge of evaluation centres, were asked to identify two more schools in case of scarcity of rooms,” the official said. “The evaluation process would take 10 to 15 days after which the department would assess the situation before conducting Class X exams,” another official said. The Class XII results are likely to be released in the first week of June. Class X exams may be held in last week of May or first week of June. “We can publish results in June-end and Class XI session may begin from first week of July,” the official added.
