PUDUCHERRY: All India Congress Committee secretary Sanjay Dutt, who is also the party’s in-charge for Puducherry and Tamil Nadu, slammed the Union government for the delay in clearing the budget proposal for the year 2020-21 submitted by the Congress government in Puducherry.
“It has been more than 50 days since the Puducherry government has submitted the budget proposal to the Union government for procedural approval.
However, the Centre deliberately continues to delay its clearance even though all the mandatory financial parameters and norms have been followed and abided by the Puducherry government,” he said in a statement.
Accusing the Centre of being politically motivated, Dutt said the Centre had launched a malicious conspiracy against the Congress government in Puducherry. “That the BJP government (in the Centre) is doing so even during the coronavirus crisis is indicative of the low-level it has fallen to target Congress ruled Union territory,” he charged.
He pointed out that chief minister V Narayanasamy was urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi to reimburse Puducherry’s share of GST and other grants to enable the government to launch proactive measures in the prevention and spread of Covid-19 infection.
He regretted that the Centre continued to deny Puducherry its due share of funds and plays petty politics by delaying the budget clearance thereby hurting the people of Puducherry.

Accusing lieutenant governor Kiran Bedi of functioning like a puppet of the BJP, he charged that Bedi had converted her official residence, Raj Nivas, into BJP headquarters in Puducherry through her biased and motivated actions against the Congress government.
He said Bedi continued to overstep the constitutional authority, blocked welfare schemes of the government and interfered in the day to day affairs of the elected government.
“It is very clear that the Prime Minister, Union home minister and lieutenant governor have been continuously insulting the Puducherry people, blatantly defying the people's mandate given to Congress in the assembly elections, by stalling government’s welfare and developmental initiatives and now even purposely delaying the budget clearance. However, they should not forget that people are supreme in our democracy and will give a befitting reply to BJP government’s anti-Puducherry people stance in coming assembly polls. All those parties who are hand-in-league with the BJP, the Union government and the lieutenant governor, covertly or overtly, in harming Puducherry people's interests, will also suffer the same fate in the ensuing polls, and be defeated by the people,” he said.
