CHENNAI: Actor-turned-politician
Rajinikanth on Sunday warned the ruling
AIADMK government to forget about returning to power if it is keen on reopening the liquor outlets in Tamil Nadu. "The state government should look at better ways to fill up its treasury," Rajinikanth requested the government in a tweet.
"The government could as well as forget about the dream of returning to power, if it opens
Tasmac outlets in the state," Rajinikanth said in a tweet on Sunday.
His tweet came a day after the state approached the Supreme Court to quash a Madras high court order on Friday asking the state government to close Tasmac shops until the lockdown is lifted.
Tasmac outlets were reopened in the state, barring areas coming under Greater Chennai police limits, on Thursday. While crowd management became a problem, tipplers hardly maintained social distancing while waiting in long queues.
This was the first time
actor Rajinikanth was opening up and making a political statement after the lockdown was imposed. He had released a video in the second week of April to wish Tamils on the occasion of Tamil New Year. He appealed to Tamils working overseas to stay safe and strictly follow rules laid by respective countries to overcome the coronavirus scare.
