The draft Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) Bill 2020 has been hotly debated since it was notified in March because of the exemptions granted to industries in meeting standard environmental safety and protection standards. The provisions raise concerns of transparency and make public participation impractical, while validating ex post facto environmental clearance, amongst other problematic changes.
