Medical admissions: PMK leader writes to PM Modi seeking 27% OBC quota
S Ramadoss
CHENNAI: PMK leader S Ramadoss on Tuesday requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take steps to ensure compliance with the Madras high court order and implement 27% reservation for other backward classes in admissions to UG and PG medical courses under all India quota.
In a letter to Modi, the PMK leader said, “Since you belong to the OBC, you are looked at as their representative and leader.
We have high hopes that you can help their cause and render justice to them.”
Ramadoss said that AIQ was formed by pooling 50% of PG seats and 15% of UG seats in various state government run medical colleges.
“Since all these seats are government educational institutions’ seats pooled from the state governments, the 27% reservation must be implemented as per the law of the land,” he said.
He said denying OBCs their due right was injustice and discrimination when SC/ST quota is implemented and EWS quota provided within the general category.
In the past four years, 11,000 OBC students lost their rights to get admitted to UG and PG courses under the AIQ.
“I will be extremely thankful if the PM asks those concerned to immediately convene a meeting of the secretary of health, Tamil Nadu government, secretary of Medical Council of India and secretary of the Dental Council of India under the auspices of the director general of health services to work out the modalities of implementation of OBC reservation without any further delay,” Ramadoss said.
