CHENNAI: Projecting himself as the perfect chief minister candidate for Tamil Nadu, actor and Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) president Kamal Haasan on Friday unveiled a 'vision document' for Tamil Nadu to put the state on the road to prosperity as an enterprise state, devoid of corruption.
The initiative is part of MNM's plans to gear up for the 2021 assembly elections for which the party has chalked out a 50-week campaign strategy from March, 2020.
"We want to bring in a two-fold change - Reimagining Tamil Nadu and revolutionising politics. This indicates our vision and the path we want to take," Kamal told a select media briefing here.
Stressing that the state needs new leadership with new thinking, Kamal said he doesn't see anyone else other than himself in the role, offering such a vision. "In the case of Rajinikanth, we need to discuss," he said. "People are yearning for a change and the leadership has been caught in a vicious circle," he said on the need for a change.
"We will cross the bridge, when it comes," he said on the question of alliance and whether other parties would accept himself as the CM candidate. "We (Tamil Nadu) have compromised enough and why do that again? We have a wonderful alliance already with the people. Rajinikanth's recent statements are veering towards neutrality and it opens scope for talks. I have already indicated that, if needed, we will work together," Kamal said.
On top of the party's priority is to 'reimagine' the state, which was at the forefront of development and rampant corruption had belittled its image. MNM's plan is to run the state like an enterprise. The politics that will drive the enterprise economy will touch farmers, roadside vendors, self-help groups, fishermen as well as small and big businessmen and generate employment for the youth to make the state a $1 trillion economy.
He however, did not back it up with numbers. As part of its 'enterprise economy' vision, MNM is keen to include the housewives and students in the ambit of traditional job market.
Paying housewives for doing their job is an idea whose time has truly come and we shall ensure that, the vision document said. When asked whether the husbands would pay, Kamal said it is a big thing and one needs to study more.
