CHENNAI: The search has begun for the best talent in vocational skills for the WorldSkills Shanghai 2021. The Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation (TNSDC) has enrolled more than 25,000 students and will begin with district-level competitions to identify the best talent to represent the country for the championship for vocational skills. The state, according to officials, has enrolled the highest number of students in the country.
It would provide opportunities to students to compete with the best of talents and help them learn from peer groups.
"It will give exposure to the students on the national and international platforms and ensure their employability as several companies gather to recruit talented youngsters," managing director of TNSDC Vishnu Venugopalan told TOI.
The corporation has roped in the WorldSkills 2018 participants, Thasleem Mohideen, M Vishwanathan and R Ganesan, from Tamil Nadu to popularise the vocational skill competition among the students in the state. The trio was among the 48 students, who represented the country in 44 vocations in the 2019 Worldskills event at Kazan in Russia. Representatives from 63 countries participated in the event.
Donning the role of ambassadors of TNSDC, the trio have been visiting industrial training institutes, polytechnic institutes, engineering colleges and other vocational skill-based institutes to encourage the students to participate in the competition. "More than 25,000 are enrolled for the meet in the state. It is the highest number in the country," said Venugopalan.
The winners at the district level would compete in state, regional and national level competitions.

The winners in the national meet would represent the country in the WorldSkills competition in 2021. The government of India would support the students' training and accommodation after he or she clears the state level meet.
"We are visiting campuses to motivate the students to hone their vocational skills and exhibit it in the competitions," said Vishwanathan who was the gold medallist in India Skills 2018, and participant of the WorldSkills the same year.
Besides, the they have also been assisting officials of TNSDC in framing the questions and designing the skill training for the students at the district level.
