TN Government allows IT firms to let 50% staff attend office

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu government on Friday evening modified its earlier order and permitted IT/ITeS companies, located within Greater Chennai police limits, to allow up to 50% of their employees to work from office. The order had a rider too – that 90% of such employees should commute to work in company-operated vehicles.
The Friday order, issued by the Revenue and Disaster Management department said, “IT/ITeS companies are permitted to work with 50% if employee strength at their work premises, subject to the condition that 90% of the employees going to work place shall use company arranged common transport facilities”.However, IT/ ITeS companies should enacourage their employees to work from home, the order added.
On Thursday evening the state government, following representations from the IT/ITeS industry, had permitted companies in Greater Chennai police limits to have up to 10% of employees working from office.
