We are heirs of MGR, Anna and Amma, EPS tells cadre
Chennai: AIADMK joint coordinator and chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Monday asserted that AIADMK cadres were the true heirs of former chief ministers C N Annadurai, M G Ramachandran and J Jayalalithaa.
Speaking at a public rally in his native town of Salem on the occasion of Jayalalithaa’s 72nd birth anniversary, Palaniswami said the cadres were successors of the leaders, who had no direct heirs.
“The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam is a historic movement. The leaders had delivered a number of welfare schemes for the people. If MGR realized the dreams of Anna, Amma fulfilled the dreams of both. Can anyone refute that?” Palaniswami said. He said his government continued her welfare schemes and enhanced the benefits and cost as well.
Flaunting the recently passed legislation to protect the Cauvery delta region, the CM said, “DMK chief M K Stalin did not expect we would announce the Cauvery delta as protected agricultural zone.”
The AIADMK celebrated Jayalalithaa’s birth anniversary with great frenzy across the state by garlanding the statue of the leader, cutting cakes and distributing sweets. Palaniswami launched a drive to plant 72 lakh saplings across the state and distributed welfare measures benefitting girl children to commemorate the Girl Children Safety Day, announced by him last week. In a three-minute video, the CM exhorted cadres to vow to destroy fake propaganda of opponents.
At R K Nagar, deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam said Jayalalithaa had established the rights of the state in inter-state water disputes. “On her advice and along the path laid down by her, the party is moving without getting derailed. She steered the party for 28 years and took the cadre force to 1.5 crore from 18 lakhs when MGR passed away,” the AIADMK coordinator said.
Palaniswami distributed welfare measures to 47,072 beneficiaries in Salem, and Panneerselvam to 18,000 beneficiaries in R K Nagar and others in other districts.
