NEW DELHi: AAP on Sunday accused BJP of orchestrating the violence in south Delhi’s New Friends Colony due to the “fear of losing” the upcoming assembly polls even as CM Arvind Kejriwal called for peace.
Posting photos and videos of fire on Twitter and of security personnel carrying yellow-coloured plastic cans at the spot, deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia alleged that the buses were burnt “under police protection” at “BJP’s behest” and demanded an “independent inquiry” into the episode.

“There should be an independent investigation as to what these uniformed personnel are putting in the buses with yellow and white colour cans before the fire started in the buses. At whose behest was it done? It is clearly seen in the photo that BJP did cheap politics and got the fire started by police,” Sisodia tweeted in Hindi. “BJP is setting Delhi afire due to the fear of defeat in elections. AAP is against violence of any kind. This is cheap politics of BJP. In this video, see how the fire is being set under the protection of the police,” he alleged in another tweet.
Kejriwal, meanwhile, called for peace and said he had spoken to the LG urging him to take necessary steps to bring normalcy. “Spoke to Hon’ble LG and urged him to take all steps to restore normalcy and peace. We are also doing everything possible at our end. Real miscreants who caused violence shud be identified and punished (sic),” he tweeted. “No one shud indulge in violence. Any kind of violence is unacceptable. Protests shud remain peaceful (sic),” the chief minister tweeted immediately after the violence erupted.
Refuting BJP’s allegations of AAP’s involvement in the violence, party leader Sanjay Singh said the charges were baseless. Accusing BJP of playing blame game, Singh said that the saffron party started “cheap politics” whenever it feared losing an election. “AAP doesn’t believe in violent protests,” he said.
