NEW DELHI: AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday alleged that Union home minister Amit Shah “mocked” Delhiites by saying that the state of education in government schools was bad.

Kejriwal also claimed that the Centre was struggling to meet the target of income tax collection, while Delhiites paid their hard-earned money as taxes for the development of the capital.

In a video statement, the chief minister alleged that Shah had “insulted” the people of Delhi during his election campaign.
To install a BJP government in Delhi after 21 years in exile, Shah had launched an intensive poll campaign addressing two-three public meetings every day. “In the past five years, the people of Delhi have worked very hard to improve the city. Two crore people got together to fix schools, hospitals, electricity and water supply. But Amit Shah comes daily and makes fun of their hard work,” Kejriwal said.
Kejriwal claimed that the result of Delhi government schools in the last academic session was 96%, while in other states it was just 40-50%. “About 16 lakh students of Delhi government schools, their parents and 65,000 teachers worked very hard to achieve this. Every year, more than 400 government schoolchildren clear IIT-JEE, but you make fun of their hard work. This is not correct,” the CM said.

“It would have been good politics if you had learned from the people of Delhi and improved the schools in UP and Haryana and those run by your own municipal corporations,” Kejriwal added.
Reiterating that Delhi’s budget had doubled from Rs 30,000 crore to Rs 60,000 crore in the last five years, Kejriwal said it was possible only because Delhiites paid taxes regularly. “They contributed their hard-earned money towards improving Delhi. People have given you the responsibility of Delhi Police, municipal corporations and DDA. Tell me what work have these departments done?” he asked.
“It has become difficult for a common man to survive. If Delhi government made electricity and water free to give people some respite from inflation, does it make them bikau (sold out)?” Kejriwal asked.
