Delhi: 1,195 fresh Covid-19 cases, 27 fatalities in last 24 hours

NEW DELHI: Delhi recorded 1,195 new cases of Covid-19 on Friday, taking the tally to over 1.35 lakh, while the death toll mounted to 3,963.
On Monday, the daily cases dipped to 613 — the lowest in two months. From Tuesday, the cases were reported in excess of 1,000.
According to the state health department, 27 fatalities were recorded in the past 24 hours, while the number of active cases reduced to 10,705.
In the past 24 hours, officials said, 5,629 RT-PCR and 13,462 rapid antigen tests were conducted.
Meanwhile, a source said, Delhi government had agreed in principle to declare Dr Joginder Chaudhary a Corona Warrior. The 28-year-old junior resident doctor with a Delhi government hospital, who was undergoing treatment for Covid-19 at Sir Ganga Ram hospital (SGRH), died on Sunday.
Dr Arun Gupta, president, Delhi Medical Council (DMC), said Dr Chaudhary’s family would get Rs 1 crore as compensation. “He lost his life bravely fighting #Covid-19,” he tweeted.

More than 2,000 healthcare workers across the capital have tested positive for Covid-19 over the past five months, while 20 have died due to the disease. This includes Dr Aseem Gupta, an anaesthesia specialist at Lok Nayak Hospital, Delhi’s biggest Covid facility. Dr Gupta, 56, died after a prolonged battle with the disease on June 28. Before him, Charan Singh, a 59-year-old staffer who was in charge of anaesthesia store at Lok Nayak Hospital, died of Covid-19.
Meanwhile, the occupancy of beds reserved for Covid patients in Delhi’s hospitals was 20%, with only 2,932 of the 14,303 beds being occupied. Even the ventilator beds that were high in demand till last month, were mostly vacant. According to data shared by the hospitals on the Delhi Corona app on Friday, of the 1,218 Covid beds with ventilator support, 404 were occupied and remaining 814 were lying vacant.
