NEW DELHI: Delhi government inaugurated state-of-the-art facilities at the Mundhela Kalan & Kair sports complexes in Najafgarh on Wednesday. The Mundhela Kalan complex will soon get the FIFA nod for a similar football ground and has, among other facilities, a six-lane 400-metre synthetic track and a 8-lane 100-metre one.
The complexes, built at an expenditure of Rs 147 crore, have various other facilities, including synthetic athletic tracks, tennis and basketball courts, swimming pool, a jogging track, and academic and residential blocks.
“Some of the best sports infrastructures have been developed by the AAP government in the past five years,” chief minister Arvind Kejriwal had tweeted on Tuesday, sharing photos of the complexes.
Revenue minister Kailash Gahlot, who is also the MLA of Najafgarh in southwest Delhi, inaugurated the facilities in the presence of a large number of schoolchildren and locals. The facilities have been created under Delhi government’s efforts for promoting various sports among children and youths at the grassroots level, he said.
The government has invested generously to provide international-standard facilities, Gahlot added. “These two sports complexes will go a long way in encouraging and nurturing local talents, especially youths from rural areas of Delhi and the rest of National Capital Region,” the minister said.
Through these complexes, Delhi government has also promoted development in Najafgarh, which was once considered a neglected area, Gahlot pointed out.
