At 145 AQI, city recorded poor air quality on Friday
Hyderabad: The city witnessed poor air quality on Friday with the index used to measure pollutants registering above normal records. The Air Quality Index, measured by the Central Pollution Control Board, put the city’s value at 145.
A good range lies between 0-60. The 145 figure falls into the ‘moderate’ category wherein there could be breathing discomfort to people with lungs, asthma and heart diseases.

A similar measurement done by US Consulate’s air monitoring system showed a reading of 155 at 8.30pm. It indicated a peak of 272 earlier in the day. This falls in the ‘unhealthy’ category described as levels at which “everyone may begin to experience health effects; members of sensitive groups may experience more serious health effects.”
A source in Telangana State PCB said, “With cold weather conditions, pollution levels generally remain high because of inversion effect. The pollutants will not rise to upper layers of atmosphere leading to higher readings. Higher AQI levels would soon dip as temperatures soar.”
