Covid-19: Active caseload in Maharashtra breaches one lakh mark

With addition of 7,827 Covid-19 cases, its third highest single day addition, the state’s active caseload breached the one-lakh mark on Sunday. Now, the state has 1,03,516 patients under treatment. Overall cases for the state also crossed the 2.5lakh mark to reach 2,54,427.

MUMBAI: With addition of 7,827 Covid-19 cases, its third highest single day addition, the state’s active caseload breached the one-lakh mark on Sunday. Now, the state has 1,03,516 patients under treatment. Overall cases for the state also crossed the 2.5lakh mark to reach 2,54,427.
The state though reported a dip in Covid-19 deaths with 173 deaths in the last 24 hours, lowest in the last one week during which it was reporting over 200 deaths daily.
And the state’s case fatality rate, which hovered between 4.5% and 4.7% for most of last month, has declined to 4%.

Mumbai in the latest update has reported 1,243 cases, contributing 15% to the state's addition. Total cases are 92,988, while active cases are 22,540. The city reported 44 deaths taking the toll to 5,288. Of the 44 reported, 32 had co-morbidities. While eight were between 40 to 60 years, around 32 of the deaths were among those above 60. The city’s doubling rate is now 50 days, said a civic official.
Cases in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region too continued to rise with Thane reporting 417 cases, taking its tally to 13,342 cases, while 9 deaths took the toll to 489. Thane Municipal Corporation plans to start antigen testing starting Monday to assess extent of the infection’s prevalence in the general population.
The tests will be conducted during OPD timings at Kalwa CSM hospital, and primary health centres at the Ghodbunder, Vartak Nagar and Wadia hospitals. "The tests will be done free of cost and results available within 30 minutes. We will reconfirm all positive reports with a PCR test and take appropriate action," said Sandeep Malvi, deputy municipal commissioner at TMC.

Kalyan-Dombivli reported high numbers for the third day in a row. It added 661 patients, highest in Thane district, taking its overall caseload to 12,813. It had reported 615 cases on Friday and 606 on Saturday. The twin cities also reported eight deaths, taking the toll to 189. KDMC in last 12 days has reported 6,238 patients, clocking daily average of 520 cases.
KDMC chief Dr Vijay Suryawanshi has appointed two officials to replicate the Dharavi model, giving each the responsibility of Kalyan and Dombivli. The officials will contact corporators and form teams to start a door-to-door survey to trace suspects and isolate them. KDMC too has bought 10,000 antigen kits and has placed orders for 25,000 more CM Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday opened the 110th Covid-19 testing lab in Jalna, constituency of health minister Rajesh Tope.
