For fifth time, CBI opposes Indrani Mukerjea’s bail plea

Opposing Indrani Mukerjea’s fifth bail plea in the Sheena Bora murder case, the CBI submitted that she had committed a heinous crime by killing her daughter and attempting to murder her son. The latest bail plea was the first in which Indrani cited “merits” of the case and said there was no evidence against her. In the four previous pleas, she had sought bail citing ill health.

MUMBAI: Opposing Indrani Mukerjea’s fifth bail plea in the Sheena Bora murder case, the CBI submitted that she had committed a heinous crime by killing her daughter and attempting to murder her son. The latest bail plea was the first in which Indrani cited “merits” of the case and said there was no evidence against her. In the four previous pleas, she had sought bail citing ill health.
Stating that Indrani could influence witnesses if given bail, the CBI said only 61witnesses had deposed.
It said that many of the total 192 were yet to depose. The CBI said co-accused Peter Mukerjea’s son and Sheena’s fiancé Rahul Mukerjea was yet to depose. It also said it was Rahul who had dropped Sheena to Indrani (on April 24, 2012). The CBI said he had seen Indrani and the driver wait for Sheena outside a clothing store at Bandra (west).
It is the CBI’s case that it was the last time that Rahul had seen Sheena as she was allegedly murdered by Indrani, driver Shyamvar Rai and her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna later that evening.
The CBI said that while deposing in court, Rai, an accused-turned-approver, had deposed in detail about commission of the crime and destruction of evidence. The CBI submitted that forensic evidence presented so far corroborated with witnesses’ statements and proved the identity of the remains and cause of death. The CBI feared that Indrani would flee if granted bail.
Arguments on the plea will be heard on Tuesday.
