MUMBAI: Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC), a Mumbai suburban area with over eight lakh populations has reported six coronavirus cases with the local administration intensifying quarantine process and sealing affected societies.
"We have sealed those particular societies wherever we identified positive cases," said Chandrakant Dange, commissioner at Mira Bhayender Municipal Corporation (MBMC). "No people movement is allowed in those particular societies.
We are arranging daily essentials for those affected societies."
The local body identified 756 residents of which 287 people have completed 14-day quarantine period. MBMC detected one case Wednesday from a housing society where they have shifted all family members out of the society and sealed the entire society. MBMC people are providing daily essentials to those societies.
Earlier this week, two housing societies reported positive cases in the neighborhood area. Immediately, MBMC officials sealed and sanitized every society within one kilometer area. They take special care in sanitizing the whole building. About 5,000 residents from the area were surveyed about their movements past few months.
"Even if we find pneumonia cases, we are hospitalising people immediately," said Dange. MBMC has sent family members' swabs for testing and fortunately, none of the family members has reported positive so far. Total 59 swabs sent for testing of which half dozen tested positive.
It asked housing societies to deploy two/three dedicated persons keeping watch on people going out and in. Shekhar Khade, a Mira Road resident of an apartment that houses about 400 flats, has received such MBMC notification and is planning to act on those instructions.

"While we are ensuring every hygiene, we are asking people not to panic too," Khade said. Most of the society gates are now under strict vigilance as the security guards are keeping it locked. They open it based on genuine needs and within the stipulated time.
They should note down the reason for entry, exit and time spent. It has also suggested societies to get a team of three people, who can take orders from individual flat owners and then go out to collect daily essentials.
