Over 900 posts vacant in fire department: RTI

Of a total sanction strength of 3,694, the Mumbai fire brigade has a staff of 2,760. This is what it has stated in a reply to an RTI query put out by activist Anil Galgali. Of 934 vacant posts, most (604) are of fire extinguisher staff followed by technical (159) and 33 posts of senior fire officials.

MUMBAI: Of a total sanction strength of 3,694, the Mumbai fire brigade has a staff of 2,760. This is what it has stated in a reply to an RTI query put out by activist Anil Galgali. Of 934 vacant posts, most (604) are of fire extinguisher staff followed by technical (159) and 33 posts of senior fire officials.
“They should fill up vacant posts at the earliest.
At ties, during fire-fighting, response time goes up due to staff shortage,” said Galgali who said that he has written to the BMC chief and chief minister to bring the issue to their notice.
