Private hospitals must keep 50% beds for Covid-19 patients or be taken over: PIL
MUMBAI: A PIL has sought that 50% beds in private hospitals must be used to treat Covid-19 patients and those that refuse must be taken over and run for that purpose.
Sent to the Bombay HC registrar-general on Monday through email, petitioner-advocate Meherwan Farshid’s PIL pointed out that Mumbai, with a population of more than 18 million, is a hotspot “with over 450 cases”.
“The hospitals earmarked by BMC and state government can accommodate a maximum of 2,000 patients, which does not constitute even .01% of the population,” it said, adding that “the intervention of the judiciary is very much required at this crucial juncture”.
