PATNA: Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday morning said Bihar government is recommending a CBI inquiry in the death case of Patna native and late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
The recommendation for CBI inquiry the case came in the wake of row over mistreatment meted with officials of Bihar Police, including an IPS official during the investigation in Sushant’s death in Mumbai.
Nitish claimed that the recommendation for CBI inquiry has been made following a consent from the same from Sushant’s father KK Singh, who had lodged an FIR in the matter at Rajiv Nagar police station in Patna on July 25.

A four member team from Patna Police went to Mumbai last week and initiated inquiry in the matter. Later, Patna City SP (central) Vinay Tiwari also went to Mumbai on last Sunday evening, but he was ‘forcibly’ quarantined in Goregaon by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), citing Covid-19 protocol.
Talking to a news channel on Tuesday morning, CM Nitish Kumar said that he had already said that Bihar government can recommend a CBI inquiry in the case only when Sushant’s father, who is the complainant in the case, makes a request for the same.
“I have been told that Sushant’s father talked to DGP Gupteshwar Pandey in the morning and requested for a CBI inquiry in the matter. Accordingly, the process has been initiated and a formal recommendation for the same will be sent to the Centre by this evening,” said Nitish, who also holds the portfolio of Bihar’s home minister.

The Bihar CM added: “Everyone was demanding a CBI inquiry in the matter and the issue was raised in the monsoon session of Bihar Assembly on Monday as well. After seeing the lack of cooperation from Mumbai police in investigation in the case, I am also of the view that CBI will conduct a hassle- free inquiry in the case.”
Nitish claimed that Bihar police was following all necessary procedures for conducting investigation in the case in Mumbai. “The FIR was lodged in Patna, thus it was well within the right of Bihar police to conduct an inquiry. Besides, we gave prior information to Mumbai police for every step taken in the investigation. Still they were not cooperating. Hence, we have recommended a CBI inquiry in the matter.”
Earlier in the morning, DGP Gupteshwar Pandey told reporters: “Our IPS officer has been kept in house arrest like a prisoner. Neither Maharashtra DGP nor their home secretary is talking to us. Their commissioner has said they will not allow investigation. There is complete no- cooperation from Mumbai police. They give us in writing to go away, we will take steps accordingly,” he said.
