MUMBAI: An 55-year-old assistant sub-inspector succumbed to the virus on Sunday, taking the police death toll in the city to 46 and 77 in the state. Suresh Jadhav, who was attached to the D N Nagar traffic police chowky, had diabetes. Jadhav was asked to stay home, per police commissioner Parambir Singh’s orders to send those over 50 with comorbidities on leave.
“He kept assuring us that he is fine. He reported to work for about a week, but we did not send him on field duty,” said an officer who worked with Jadhav.
Jadhav lived in Jogeshwari with his family. On June 19, he was admitted to Oscar Hospital in Kandivli, with a fever. Two days later, he tested positive for Covid. One of his family members also tested positive but has since recovered. On Sunday, Jadhav succumbed to the virus.
