VADODARA: A rape accused who is currently lodged in Vadodara Central Jail was booked at Raopura police station for threatening the rape survivor’s father and the witness in the case.
The accused Bhavans Prajapati met the rape survivor’s neighbour in the jail on December 3 when he issued the threats. The neighbour was sent to jail by court as he had not appeared in connection with a case. This is when he encountered Prajapati.

When the neighbour had asked Prajapati about his case, the latter said that he is waiting to get bail. He used a casteist slur against the rape survivor’s father and threatened to kill him and the witness.
The neighbour told the girl’s father recently about his conversation with Prajapati. On being asked by the rape survivor’s father the neighbour agreed to give same statement before police regarding Prajapati’s threats. The man then approached Raopura police station where, based on his complaint an offence of criminal intimidation and violation of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act was registered.
Police said that Prajapati is a local hoodlum and used to run a small gang of local boys until he was arrested in the rape case. Prajapati and five others, including three minor boys, were booked for raping a 19-year-old girl in Gotri and had extorted around Rs 50,000 from her.
(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
