Even though Sanchana Natarajan has been in the movie industry for almost six years, she only has a few films to her credit. But the model-turned-actress says she has no qualms about her journey being slow. “I feel my journey has been worth my while. I wouldn’t have gotten an opportunity to work with Karthik Subbaraj sir and Dhanush sir if I had taken a different path,” says Sanchana, who plays a pivotal role in the duo’s Jagame Thandhiram.
In fact, audiences got a glimpse of her look in the recently released song, Rakita Rakita Rakita, from the film.
While Sanchana is tight-lipped about her role, she says she landed this film by chance. “I had visited Karthik sir’s office for a couple of films, but nothing materialised. However, I was roped in for one of their web series. When we were shooting for that, I heard they were looking for someone for Jagame Thandhiram. Incidentally, the team I was working with had suggested my name for this role and I, too, sent them my pictures,” she says, “I look out for roles that are fascinating, and I should feel I’m wanted there. This character is different; I play a girl from a rural background. Moreover, it is a Karthik-Dhanush film. I am doing it for the memory I am going to carry with me.”
Sanchana says Karthik’s style of filming is different. She explains, “I like the fact that he gives a lot of freedom to his actors. He appreciates us whenever we do a fine job. That naturally boosts your confidence.”
The youngster says she learnt a lot just by watching Dhanush act and dance. “It was my first day of the shoot and we were filming Rakita Rakita Rakita. I was a little nervous, but he made me feel comfortable. I sat there all day, watching him act and dance with so much ease. Be it the first take or the third take, he brings the same amount of energy to his performance. That level of consistency is something to look up to. Dhanush sir is like Chitti, the robot, he grasps his character to the fullest,” she says, “I am so excited I got my first song with Dhanush sir. The fact that Karthik sir made me a small part of this film means a lot to me.”
