I became a fan when...
I have been an ardent fan of Dhanush anna from the time his film Sullan released. I was in school then. I used to have a huge collection of audio and video CDs and cassettes of his films then. Catching up his movies, sporting the same costume and hairstyle in which he appears in them, has become a way of life.
When I met my idol...
I have tried meeting him on several occasions.
I used to visit the shooting spots of his films and there were many instances where I was asked to leave the place by bodyguards and cops. My friends and I bunked classes for two weeks when the shooting of Kodi was happening at a college in Coimbatore. I remember following his car for a few kilometres to get a glimpse of him — that was the first time I came face-to-face with him, though he was a little far away. Later, I became a junior artiste in one of the crucial scenes of Kodi — that’s when I saw him up close. A couple of years later, after the shoot of Maari 2, anna posed for photos with almost 1,500 fans at Nellai. It was about a month before the release of his Vada Chennai. He was giving photo ops for fans from 8am to 2pm and I, too, went and stood in the long queue. By then I had become popular among my friends because of the regular tweets I would keep posting about anna on Twitter. When my turn came, I told him that it was I who posts about him frequently, to which he said, ‘Thanks ma’.
The craziest thing I’ve done as a fan...
That would be buying a bike after watching Polladhavan as that was the same brand of two-wheeler he used in the film. Similarly, I can never forget the FDFS experience of watching Velai Illa Pattadhari in a theatre in my home town, Pollachi. I went with my gang of friends and as soon as the song Oothungada Sangu was played, I started dancing. After a while, the theatre owner came and asked the security to send me out. But all the fans in the hall stood by me and later they allowed me to watch the movie. I watch all his films three times on the first day, including the evening show for which I go with my mother.
