Viral! Samantha Akkineni's comments on star heroes and the tag of a 'flop heroine'
After ending 2019 on a high with three back-to-back hits like Super Deluxe, Majili and Oh! Baby, Samantha Akkineni reprised the titular role of Trisha Krishnan in the Telugu remake of Kollywood blockbuster 96 titled as Jaanu. Released in the first week of February 2020, the romantic-drama failed to strike the right chord with the Telugu viewers. Despite garnering critical acclaim with a special mention to the terrific performances of Sam and Sharwanand, Jaanu fell flat at the box-office and ended up as a debacle.
Within no time, a Bollywood entertainment portal termed the talented beauty as a ‘flop heroine’.
During a recent interaction with a tabloid, the 32-year-old actress reacted hard on being called as a flop heroine. She said “Even if a star hero gets three back-to-back flops, people would still go and watch his fourth film in the theaters. For them, the walking of their favourite hero on the screen is enough. But, unfortunately, they blame the heroine for the film’s flop.”
She also spoke about the lack of commercial reception for female-centric films. “Just because Oh! Baby turned out to be a big hit; I cannot do another women-centric project as people might not accept a solo film again. Also, I don’t understand why women don’t get equally paid like men. Women are working as hard as women,” she said.
After wrapping up the second season of The Family Man, Samantha has recently signed Vignesh Shivan’s Kaathu Vaakula Rendu Kadhal which stars Vijay Sethupathi and Nayanthara. Rumours on her pregnancy have popped up once again among media circles.
