1997 batch IPS officer Vijay kumar to be new IG police, Kashmir

In a surprise move , J&K government on Saturday shifted Inspector general of police, Kashmir range Swayam Prakash Pani to J&K Armed police as inspector general of Kashmir division while incumbent Armed IG, 1997 IPS Vijay Kumar will hold the charge of IG police, Kashmir range.

SRINAGAR : In a surprise move , J&K government on Saturday shifted Inspector general of police, Kashmir range Swayam Prakash Pani to J&K Armed police as inspector general of Kashmir division while incumbent Armed IG, 1997 IPS Vijay Kumar will hold the charge of IG police, Kashmir range.
Interestingly, 2000 batch IPS officer SP Pani functioned as IG Kashmir range for one year and 10 months only, when he replaced the then IG Kashmir Munir Khan in February 2018.
However, the central government has already approved the central deputation of SP Pani for three years .
Meanwhile, in another order, ADG security wing, and law and order Munir khan will hold the additional charge of Surinder Kumar Gupta-IPS, IG Special Security Group (SSG). Kumar is attaining age of superannuation at the end of this year.
An IPS officer of 1997 batch Vijay Kumar earlier served on the various posts in Kashmir region specially in the most troubled South Kashmir . He has also served in CRPF on central deputation as DIGP New Delhi Range, IGP and IGP Chhattisgarh. Kumar is amongst few IPS officers who was responsible for anti-terrorist operations in J&K.
The Election Commission of India has awarded him the prestigious National Award for his role as chief force coordinator of CAPFs in providing safe environment for conducting assembly elections of nine states in 2018.
Besides neutralisation of Maoists, he also worked in conducting incident free general parliamentary election 2019 in Chhattisgarh, especially in Maoist infested South Bastar.
Kumar is recipient of four Gallantry Medals, Meritorious Service Medal, National Award by the ECI and Commendation Cards/Discs by the COAS, GoC-in-C (Northern Command), DG CRPF & DGP J&K.
