PM Narendra Modi addresses Lok Sabha: Highlights

PM Narendra Modi addresses Lok Sabha: Highlights
NEW DELHI: Speaking during the ongoing discussion on Motion of Thanks to the President's address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday addressed the achievements of his government and underlined the benefits of his government's fast-paced strategy.
Here is a look at some of the highlights from PM Modi's speech in Lok Sabha —
  • We were asked why were we in such a hurry to do all these tasks? What was the need to perform all the work so quickly?
  • The people of India have not only changed the Sarkar. They want the sarokar (relation) to be changed as well.
  • If we had worked according to the old ways and thought processes — Article 370 would never have been history; Muslim women would have kept suffering due to Triple Talaq; Ram Janmabhoomi issue would have remained unsolved; Kartarpur Sahib corridor would not be a reality; There would be no India-Bangladesh land agreement.
  • India can no longer wait for problems to remain unsolved. And, rightfully so. That is why our aim is: Speed and scale. Determination and decisiveness. Sensitivity and solutions.
  • When I see and hear Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury ji, I congratulate Kiren Rijiju ji, Adhir ji promotes the 'Fit India Movement' launched by Rijiju ji very well. He also does gymming while delivering his speeches.
  • Today the world has many expectations from us. It is essential that we show courage and work to overcome the challenges we are facing.
  • Let us talk about the Northeast. For years, distance became a reason to ignore this region. Things have changed now. The Northeast is becoming a growth engine. Great work has been done in so many sectors. Ministers and officials are regularly visiting the region.
  • Driven by politics, some states are not allowing farmers to benefit from PM-Kisan Scheme. I appeal to them- let there be no politics in farmer welfare. We all have to work together for the prosperity of farmers of India.
  • I heard an Opposition MP saying — we will beat Modi with sticks in six months. I have also decided — will do more Surya Namaskar. This will make my back even stronger to face abuses. In any case, I have been abused so much for the last 2 decades, their negativity hardly matters.
  • There has been talk of 'save Constitution'. I agree, Congress should say this 100 times in a day. Maybe they will realize their past mistakes. Did you forget this slogan during Emergency? When state governments were dismissed? When cabinet resolutions were torn?
  • Those who are talking about respect for the Constitution never even implemented it in Jammu & Kashmir for so many decades. Shahi Tharoor ji you have been the son-in-law of Jammu & Kashmir, you should have shown concern.
  • People who are saying that Kashmir has lost its identity need to remember that they are the same people who had buried Kashmir's true identity on the night of January 19, 1990.
President Ram Nath Kovind had addressed a joint sitting of both the Houses of the Parliament, Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, on January 31, ahead of the start of the Budget session.
Both the houses are holding a discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the President's address.
