Michelle Obama won the Grammy for best spoken word album for the audiobook of her memoir 'Becoming'.
The former First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama released a memoir in 2018 titled 'Becoming' which took the literary world by storm. Despite being published late in the year, the book sold more copies than any other book published in the United States that year. It broke the record in just 15 days!
Its audiobook seems just as popular, it spent seven months as the number one bestselling audio download.
Now that audiobook has won the 2020 Grammy for best spoken word album. She has narrated it herself, though she wasn't present at the Grammys to receive the award. Esperanza Spalding accepted the award on her behalf.
Her husband Barak Obama has won the same Grammy twice, once for the abridged audiobook versions of 'Dreams from My Father' in 2006 and for 'The Audacity of Hope' in 2008. Both books were written by him.
The other nominees for the award this year were Michael Diamond, Adam Horovitz, Scott Sherratt and Dan Zitt for the 'Beastie Boys Book', Eric Alexandrakis for 'I.V. Catatonia: 20 Years As A Two-Time Cancer Survivor', John Waters for 'Mr. Know-It-All' and Sekou Andrews & The String Theory 'Sekou Andrews & The String Theory'.
