Michael Jordan's sneakers auctioned and sold for a whopping INR 4.2 crore

One of the most popular names in the history of basketball is that of Michael Jordan, who has not only won many league championships but has also won millions of hearts. Recently, in an auction at Sotheby's, a pair of sneakers worn by Chicago Bulls star in his first season in the NBA has been sold for a sum of USD 560,000 which when converted into INR equals to 4.2 crore.

Recently, in an auction at Sotheby's, a pair of sneakers worn by Chicago Bulls star in his first season in the NBA has been sold for a sum of USD 560,000 which when converted into INR equals to 4.2 crore.

The vintage Air Jordan sneakers was first designed in 1985, which was also featured in the final episodes of the smash-hit ESPN documentary series "The Last Dance", which not only tells the life-story of Jordan but also talks of the time he spent with the Chicago Bulls.

According to Sotheby, there were 10 bidders across four continents, who went on to compete for about 10 days. The auction house also said, that the prices went up to over USD 300,000 in the last 20 minutes, which exceeded their USD 150,000 estimate.
For most of his life, Michael Jordan wore mismatched pair in a size 13 (left) and size 13.5 (right). The Air Jordan shoes have been one of the prominent reasons behind the wave of sneaker culture in the NBA and also amongst basketball lovers. This range of sneakers has become so popular in the market that Nike still continues to produce these pairs, which is in itself a statement of respect to the legend himself.
