JMI organises a national conference on Advanced Functional Materials

The Department of Chemistry, Jamia Millia Islamia(JMI) organised a two-day national conference on Advanced Functional Materials (NCAFM-2019) under the aegis of MHRD-SPARC scheme. The aim of the conference was to highlight the significance of Advanced Materials in modern times and to discuss the various applications of these materials particularly in energy storage and generation.The conference gathered a galaxy of eminent scientists. It was presided over by Najma Akhtar, Vice Chancellor, JMI, Prof D D Sarma, IISc Bangalore, the Chief Guest), Ashok K. Ganguli, IIT Delhi.
During his inaugural address, scientist D D Sarma emphasised upon the need to adopt an interdisciplinary approach towards the design and development of Advanced Functional Materials. The scientific remarks were given by AK Ganguli. He said that the theme of the conference is a high priority research area.
JMI Vice-Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar appreciated the initiative taken by the Chairman (NCAFM -2019), Amir Azam to invite renowned dignitaries as speakers in this conference. She motivated the department to conduct an International Conference as part of centenary celebrations of the university.
The Convener of the conference Tokeer Ahmad presented the conference report and informed the participants that selected manuscripts would be published in Materials Today Proceedings, Elsevier Journal. He also mentioned that the conference received messages and wishes from Vice-President of India M. Venkaiah Naidu , UGC-Chairman DP Singh , DST-Secretary Prof. Ashutosh Sharma, DG-CSIR Dr. Shekhar C. Mande, Director IIT Delhi Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao and AMU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Tariq Mansoor which were included in the abstract booklet.
The formal vote of thank was presented by the Convener Tokeer Ahmad.
