NAGPUR: Ever since Tanu Kalsi helped Indian badminton team win gold medals in the 13th South Asian Games held in Kathmandu last December, she has become quite popular in the Pullela Gopichand Badminton Academy, Hyderabad.
On her maiden assignment as the Indian team physiotherapist, Tanu did a brilliant job as India swept all the medals in the bi-annual Games. The 25-year-old city girl did no harm to her growing reputation when she introduced a new concept ‘reaching out to all my athletes’ during this lockdown period.
Working as one of the physios at the Gopichand Academy for the last couple of years, her job is to help players increase their fitness level.
Kalsi has prepared a note and circulated it to all the Gopichand Academy players asking them to make the most of this forced break.
Almost all the top shuttlers including Parupalli Kashyap, Sikki Reddy, Rituparna Panda, Arundhati Pantawane and Rasika Raje have liked Kalsi’s initiative and promised to follow regimen prescribed by her.
“I wanted to reach out to all the sportsmen I am associated with in order to help them. This is the time when one can focus on both their strengths as well as weaknesses,” she said.
Kalsi got the chance to work with Gopichand after impressing the legend during the Senior National Badminton Championship held here at the Divisional Sports Complex in Mankapur in 2017.
Back to the present, Kalsi advised players to target their weaknesses and embrace their strengths. “To all those who are concerned about their injuries, utilize this time to figure out the cause, work on your rehabilitation as it will help you come back stronger, do not hesitate to seek guidance or help from your physiotherapist,” her note says.

Also, she appealed to the shuttlers to concentrate on technique. “We have to work on both aspects — physical and mental. So, I want all the athletes to view at least five matches of the opponents they rate high. Pen down their weaknesses, master their strokes and strengths,” said Kalsi.
Similarly, she asked every individual to review their best 5 matches and thoroughly analyze them.
