Rishabh Pant is a special talent, let's leave selection to selectors, says Sourav Ganguly

NEW DELHI: It's no secret that the Indian cricket team management feels young wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant is the frontrunner to be the long-term replacement for MS Dhoni, whenever the 2011 World Cup-winning captain hangs up his gloves.
But considering Pant's recent form, the Delhi lad has faced constant criticism for his lacklustre batting display, lack of consistency and sloppy glovework behind the wickets.Due to Pant's dismal run with the bat and the gloves, Sanju Samson's name has been doing the rounds and the Kerala player has been tagged as best man to replace Pant in the ODI and T20I squads.
Despite being criticised for his poor form, Pant has managed to get the backing of former India captain Sourav Ganguly. The BCCI president called Pant ‘a special talent'.
“These are selection matters which are dealt by selectors. But Rishabh (Pant) is a special talent and we saw how he played well in the two matches he played against West Indies. His record in Test cricket has been good but the end decision would be left to the selectors,” Ganguly told Timesofindia.com from the sidelines of the launch of the My11 Circle fantasy cricket app recently.
The idea of hosting a pink ball Test in India was Ganguly's brainchild and it turned out to be a huge success.
Virat Kohli-led Team India played their first-ever pink-ball Test at a jam-packed Eden Gardens stadium in Kolkata, where they clinched a dominating victory against Bangladesh. The historic Pink Ball Test in the City of Joy attracted a massive crowd and was a huge success.
So will the BCCI push for more pink ball Tests in future series?
“We will have to discuss this with the other cricket boards as well. But the pink ball Test has definitely gained popularity in India,” Ganguly said.

"Man management skills and an eye for talent are two qualities that a cricketer should have," was Ganguly's response.
On being asked about Dhoni's future, considering he has not played a single match in India colours since India's semi-final exit in the ICC ODI World Cup 2019 in England and Wales, Ganguly said: "These are private discussions among players and managers and I will leave it at that."
