NAGPUR: Members of Miles N Millers Endurance Sports Academy, Rajendra Jaiswal and Darshan Singh Chhatre, successfully completed their 70.3 Ironman in Bahrain recently.
Ironman and Ironman 70.3 are famous international events in which participant has to cover 3.8 kms swimming, 180 kms cycling and 42.2 kms running in 17 hours. Similarly for Ironman 70.3, the distance is 1.9 kms swimming, 90 kms cycling and 21 kms running within a cut off time of 8.30 hours.
"A couple of years back, I was not a swimmer but then I trained myself in swimming and then sea swimming.
I also trained myself for cycling. It is a big achievement for me to complete the challenge. Last year, I failed to complete the race," said Jaiswal while interacting with the media during a press conference held here on Friday. He completed the event in 7 hours and 10 minutes.
Chhatre needed just a minute more to complete the event. "I was a state-level swimmer in my college days but then was out of sports for many years. I then again started training two years back with Miles N Milers and regained fitness and trained for cycling and running and has now done Ironman 70.3," said Chhatre, who had finished 3rd in Nagpur duathlon.
To add to the success of Miles and Millers Endurance Sports Academy, four athletes Jitendra Patel from Udaipur, Parag Tapre and Rajendra Sonone (both from Akola) and Abhinav Konher from Nagpur have completed full and half ironman races at Busselton in Australia recently.
All of them are busy professional but have spared time from their busy life to train themselves and become Ironman. They all give the credit of their success to the director of ProHealth Foundation Amit Samarth.
Out of them, Udaipur businessman Patel did full Ironman in 14 hours and 9 minutes. Pediatric surgeon Dr Parag Tapre completed Ironman 70-3 in 7 hours and 7 minutes in his third Ironman race.
Nagpur's orthopedic surgeon too did Ironman 70-3 in Busselton in 7 hours and 7 minutes and this is his second Ironman race. Akola's Dr Sonone successfully completed his third Ironman race in 8.30 hours.
