FAKE ALERT: Donald Trump makes fake claim of him having more likes on Facebook than PM Modi

Ahead of his first official visit to India, US president Donald Trump took to Twitter to claim that he was “number 1” on Facebook (in terms of page likes), where as PM Modi was “number 2”. Trump quoted Facebook co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg to make this claim.

“Great honor, I think? Mark Zuckerberg recently stated that “Donald J. Trump is Number 1 on Facebook. Number 2 is Prime Minister Modi of India.” Actually, I am going to India in two weeks.

TRUTH
Donald Trump’s page is not the most liked page on Facebook. Modi has almost double page likes than Trump. The most liked page on Facebook belongs to footballer Cristiano Ronaldo.
VERIFICATION AND METHODOLOGY
We looked up the official page of Trump on Facebook and found his page has a total of 25,967,233 likes (at the time of filing this report). While the official page of PM Modi had 44,623,291 likes (at the time of filing this report).

Then we looked up data available on social media tracking portal Socialbakers.com and found that the most liked page on Facebook belongs to neither Trump nor Modi. Footballer Cristiano Ronaldo at 122,408,594 had the most like Facebook page, followed by football clubs Real Madrid CF and FC Barcelona.

Moreover, we found no statement in public domain from Zuckerberg claiming that Trump was number one in terms of Facebook likes followed by Modi.
VERDICT
Times Fact Check has found that the claim made by Donald Trump of him being the most liked page on Facebook to be incorrect. His claim of him having more likes than PM Modi has also turned out to be false.
