Jharkhand lynching: 4 arrested after 2 men beaten to death by mob on suspicion of stealing buffaloes

Two men were lynched by locals after they were allegedly caught stealing buffaloes in Jharkhand's Godda district.

Four people have been arrested in this regard, said the Jharkhand Police on Thursday.

"Two men were lynched to death by locals after they were caught stealing buffaloes. Till the time police were informed of the matter, they had died. Four prime accused have been arrested and sent to jail," Inspector General Ashish Batra told ANI.

The incident took place on Wednesday after a mob allegedly lynched two men over suspicion of stealing cattle.

The two victims have been identified as – Sirabuddin Ansari (35) and Murtaza Ansari (30).

According to reports, the victims reportedly have a history of stealing cattle and they were part of a gang of five that entered a village.

Reports said that some villages raised the alarm when they got to know about the thieves and they were chased after more people gathered. Later, the villagers caught hold of two of them and thrashed them leading to their death.

The rising incidents of mob lynching across the country have become a matter of concern.

The recent incident which drew huge outrage was the one where two men were beaten up to death in Assam's Karbi Anglong by the villagers after they mistook the two as child lifters.

Two youth were pulled out of their vehicle at Panjuri in Karbi Anglong district in Assam and beaten to death by a group of irate villagers, who suspected them to be child-lifters on the basis of fake information circulated on social media.
