PL giants Man Utd set to play East Bengal in Kolkata next year: Report

Indian footballing giants East Bengal will be taking on English Premier League juggernauts Manchester United in Kolkata next year if everything goes to plan.

A group of United officials, comprising of four members, flew over to the "City of Joy" on Thursday and had a meeting with the state sports minister Aroop Biswas at Nabanna.

The Red Devils' director of football Allan John Dawson, officials Philip Malcolm Smith, Matthew Charles Jones and their director of tours and friendlies of the club, Christoffer Laurens Komen were the ones who made the long trip from Manchester.

The four-man delegate team also paid a visit to the Salt Lake stadium to see the grounds, media facilities, dressing room, and galleries ahead of the final call.

According to the Indian Express sources, the MUFC delegates after looking at the facilities at the stadium were very much happy and appreciated Kolkata's sporting culture and passion.

They also expressed their satisfaction towards the local security provided by the state government.

The source allegedly also said even after positive talks, East Bengal are still refusing to comment on the topic.

But the ultimate decision will be made by the United delegates in their final report submitted to the club.

The report also says that the match will be part of East Bengal's centenary celebrations and will be part of MUFC's pre-season Asia tour ahead of the 2020-21 season.

The Old Trafford devotees are also expected to visit Bangladesh for a match after their game against East Bengal.
